Genes
published an article on July 6, 2020, by Káldy
et al.
, reporting the successful hybridization of tetraploid Russian Sturgeon (
Acipenser gueldenstaedtii
) and diploid American Paddlefish (
Polyodon spathula
)
,
two fish estimated last to have shared a common ancestor about 184 million years ago.
What’s that got to do with the price of fish? Well, perhaps a lot when the fish in question can produce caviar and use its own snout to spread it.
