Paddlurgeon

The journal Genes published an article on July 6, 2020, by Káldy et al., reporting the successful hybridization of tetraploid Russian Sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) and diploid American Paddlefish (Polyodon spathula), two fish estimated last to have shared a common ancestor about 184 million years ago.  What’s that got to do with the price of fish?  Well, perhaps a lot when the fish in question can produce caviar and use its own snout to spread it.
